i want to put plants in my steve's home (his tank) but not sure what to put in or how to plant them, can anyone help

A small bromeliad(sp??) in a plant pot should do the trick.
There are other plants that can be used as well, but I've not used any aside from them so may be worth waiting for someone else with more experience with live plants in a humid atmosphere to respond. I used a lot of plastic ones.
